Detained by the Taliban after being expelled from Iran, Mohammadi’s case sparks international concern over human rights in Afghanistan.
Tehran —
Members of Afghan civil society and human rights organizations have voiced deep concern over the arrest of Ahmad Mojtaba Mohammadi, a prominent activist for justice and human rights.
After being deported from Iran, Mohammadi was compelled to return to Afghanistan, where the Taliban detained him. His arrest, activists say, violates the fundamental principles of human rights and international law.
“Silence in the face of this injustice is complicity in silencing the voices of freedom in Afghanistan,” the statement reads.
The group calls on the United Nations, Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, and other global institutions to take immediate and effective measures for Mohammadi’s unconditional release.
“His voice is the voice of freedom and justice.”
