Institutions of Civil Society and Human Rights in Afghanistan

Report by Afghanistan Civil Society and Human Rights Organizations

Location: Islamabad, Pakistan
Date: December 28, 2023

The civil society and human rights organizations of Afghanistan have expressed grave concerns over the expansion of religious schools under Taliban control. These schools, operating under the guise of religion, have become hubs for promoting extremism, violence, and ideological indoctrination, steering the new generation toward terrorist mindsets.

The Taliban, exploiting the name of Islam, have dismantled educational infrastructures and replaced scientific education with extremist ideologies. Their recent decision to replace regular schools with religious ones jeopardizes Afghanistan’s scientific and social future.

These organizations stated that this trend not only harms the Afghan people but also poses a severe threat to regional and global security. They called on the international community, the United Nations, and human rights organizations to take immediate and decisive action to halt the spread of these schools and support equitable, scientific, and humane education for Afghanistan’s children.

Message:
No to extremism, no to Taliban-controlled religious schools.
