Message of human rights activists and members of Afghan civil society and human rights organizations to international human rights organizations, freedom of expression organizations and our global society, members of Afghan civil and human rights organizations, with deep concern and regret, the unfair arrest and imprisonment of Ahmad Mojtaba Mohammadi, a human rights activist. We condemn the human being and the members of the leadership of this institution by the Taliban. This action is clearly against all international human rights values and standards.
We emphasize the following points:
- The arrest of Mr. Mohammadi is a clear violation of freedom of expression and freedom of civil activities, which is considered one of the fundamental rights of every human being.
- This Taliban action is part of the repressive policy against civil activists and human rights defenders in Afghanistan.
- Mr. Mohammadi has not committed any crime and has been arrested only for filing for justice, freedom and basic rights of the people of Afghanistan.
- His arrest and imprisonment violates international documents, especially the “Universal Declaration of Human Rights” and the “International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights”.
- We call on all international organizations, especially the United Nations Human Rights Council, Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch and other freedom advocates, to take immediate action for the unconditional release of Ahmad Mojtaba Mohammadi.
- We ask the free media and civil society of the world to reflect on this issue and raise their protest against this cruelty and injustice.
- We warn that the continued arrest of human rights activists by the Taliban will have irreparable consequences on the human rights situation in Afghanistan.
In the end, we declare unanimously: We want the immediate release of Ahmad Mojtaba Mohammadi. Mojtaba Mohammadi should be released immediately and without any condition.
