Advocacy Campaign for the Release of Imprisoned Journalists in Afghanistan
Official Call
The Institutions of Civil Society and Human Rights in Afghanistan (ICSHRA) express deep concern over the increasing pressure on media and the widespread restrictions on freedom of expression. We strongly condemn the arbitrary detention of journalists Shakib Ahmad Nazari, Hamid Farhadi, and Bashir Hatef by the Taliban in Afghanistan.
This action constitutes a clear violation of fundamental human rights, freedom of expression, and access to information, and raises serious concerns about the safety and well-being of these journalists. Journalists are the eyes and ears of society, and their detention represents a direct suppression of truth and silencing of the public voice.
In this regard, ICSHRA has launched an advocacy campaign calling for the immediate release of these journalists. Members of civil society, human rights defenders, and journalists are encouraged to actively participate by sharing messages on social media and using designated hashtags to amplify a unified voice in defense of press freedom.
We call on the international community, the United Nations, Reporters Without Borders (RSF), and Human Rights Watch to take urgent and effective action to secure the immediate and unconditional release of these journalists.
Our demands:
Immediate and unconditional release of Shakib Ahmad Nazari, Hamid Farhadi, and Bashir Hatef
An end to torture and ill-treatment in detention
Respect for the right to access information and guarantees for the safety of journalists
Do not remain silent in the face of injustice.
