Joint Statement by Over 30 Human Rights and Women’s Rights Organizations on the Detention of Ahmad Mojtaba Mohammadi – Afghanistan
More than 30 Afghan human rights organizations and women’s protest movements have issued a joint statement demanding the immediate release of Ahmad Mojtaba Mohammadi, a human rights activist and a member of the leadership of the Institutions of Civil Society and Human Rights of Afghanistan (ICSHRA).
Mr. Mohammadi was forcibly deported from the Islamic Republic of Iran and, on 24 August 2025, was arrested by Taliban intelligence forces in Parwan Province.
Women’s protest movements report that Mr. Mohammadi is currently subjected to severe physical and psychological torture while in Taliban custody.
The signatories emphasized that Mr. Mohammadi’s detention is solely due to his peaceful human rights work, defending fundamental freedoms, and protesting against violations of women’s and civil society rights. This detention constitutes a clear breach of Afghanistan’s international obligations under the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR), the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR), and the UN Declaration on Human Rights Defenders.
In the statement, the human rights organizations and women’s movements demand:
The immediate and unconditional release of Ahmad Mojtaba Mohammadi;
Utilization of diplomatic channels and UN mechanisms to pressure the Taliban to ensure his personal safety;
Provision of protective measures and immediate access to asylum pathways for him and other Afghan human rights defenders at risk.
The organizations warned that the case of Ahmad Mojtaba Mohammadi is a striking example of the dire situation faced by human rights defenders in Afghanistan.
بیانیه مشترک بیش از ۳۰ نهاد حقوق بشری و جنبشهای زنان افغانستان در مورد بازداشت احمد مجتبی محمدی
بیش از ۳۰ نهاد حقوق بشری و جنبشهای اعتراضی زنان افغانستان در بیانیهای مشترک خواستار آزادی فوری احمد مجتبی محمدی، فعال حقوق بشر و عضو رهبری نهادهای جامعه مدنی و حقوق بشری افغانستان (ICSHRA)، شدند.
آقای محمدی پس از اخراج اجباری از جمهوری اسلامی ایران، در تاریخ ۲۴ اگست ۲۰۲۵ توسط نیروهای استخبارات طالبان در ولایت پروان بازداشت شد.
جنبشهای اعتراضی زنان گزارش دادهاند که آقای محمدی در بازداشتگاه طالبان تحت شکنجههای شدید جسمی و روحی قرار دارد.
امضاکنندگان تأکید کردهاند که بازداشت محمدی صرفاً به دلیل فعالیتهای مسالمتآمیز حقوق بشری، دفاع از آزادیهای بنیادی و اعتراض به نقض حقوق زنان و جامعه مدنی صورت گرفته و نقض آشکار تعهدات بینالمللی افغانستان ذیل میثاق بینالمللی حقوق مدنی و سیاسی، اعلامیه جهانی حقوق بشر و اعلامیه مدافعان حقوق بشر ملل متحد است.
در این بیانیه، نهادهای حقوق بشری و جنبشهای زنان خواستار شدند:
آزادی فوری و بدون قید و شرط احمد مجتبی محمدی؛
استفاده از مکانیزمهای دیپلماتیک و سازمان ملل برای اعمال فشار بر طالبان به منظور تضمین امنیت جانی او؛
فراهمسازی حمایت حفاظتی و مسیرهای پناهندگی فوری برای وی و سایر مدافعان حقوق بشر افغانستان در معرض خطر.
این نهادها هشدار دادهاند که پرونده احمد مجتبی محمدی نمونه بارزی از وضعیت وخیم مدافعان حقوق بشر در افغانستان است.
